Nic van den Bosch's 'Horsemanure Site'

Early Flowering
The above photo is a backbulb in horsemanure and the plant has produced it's first flowers before it has grown it's own first bulb. This has happened a few times but although plants grown this way flower early, it's not usually this early.

Nic said, "When I became a member of the Launceston Orchid Society 25 years ago I was told that a cymbidium must have three bulbs before it is flowering size.  That was before anyone here tried horsemanure as a medium, but the horse has changed that too!'

The top of the pot is covered with about an inch of sphagnum moss. This has no effect on the plant but reduces weed growth. The backbulb is visible in the sphagnum.
