Nic said, "Try it. It will take you longer to count your flowers".

Nic's
comment on Disa requiring a buffer in the medium prompted many
people to ask for photos of Disa in horsemanure. Here are some
examples. |
Here is a Pleione formosana grown in horsemanure. The 2002 bulb had 3 spikes with a flower. Every spike produced a very big new bulb and in 2003 every bulb produced 2 flowers. |
This
photo was sent to Nic by Guillermo Angulo from Colombia. |
More Disas | These two photos of a sphacelatum were sent in by Paula Vagner of Boca Raton, Florida USA. The photo at left was taken in 2004 when the plant had 7 flower spikes. Then Paula added horsemanure. The photo at right shows the spectacular result in 2005. The plant is almost twice the size and has 22 flower spikes. |
Julie in Caracas reported on the successful repotting of Phaps with horse manure. Julie wrote: "Several months ago as suggested by you I introduced horse manure in my plants and today I report that my Phaps are growing like crazy and with buds and that Phap. Ruby Dust Heart of Gold has finally flowered". |
